The story of the Summit
It began as a workshop
In 2019, during London Climate Week, a small group gathered for two days to explore what it might mean to design capital for systems transformation. It was informal, exploratory, and full of unfinished ideas.
That gathering planted a seed: if systemic investing was going to become a real field, it needed more than papers and pilots. It needed a place to come together. To practice. To learn. To build trust.
From the start, the aim was field-building. When funding made it possible to act on that ambition, the idea of an annual gathering took shape.
Boston, London, Rio and now Montréal...
In 2024, the first Summit took place at MIT in Boston. It was carefully curated and built around collective problem-solving rather than traditional conference formats.
People showed up. They stayed engaged. Conversations went deep. A sense of shared ownership emerged.
A second Summit followed in London, strengthening the Summit’s DNA: shared agendas, co-created content, and intentional spaces for connection.
In 2026, the Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro—our first in the Global South. Participants shared learnings from a region leading in climate finance, Indigenous stewardship, nature-based solutions, and community-led innovation.
Each Summit is designed from scratch. What stays the same is the commitment to working together, trying things out, and taking the work seriously—without taking ourselves too seriously.

Frequently asked questions
Does submitting an expression of interest guarantee a ticket?
Submitting an EOI does not guarantee an invitation; we review every submission to ensure alignment with the Summit’s aims and to curate a balanced, action-oriented cohort. Canada 2027 is for practitioners, so we will be looking for those who are actively engaging with the practice.
Who usually attends?
Leaders and practitioners from institutional capital, the public sector, family offices and HNWIs, foundations, MDBs and DFIs, the research community civil society, corporations, and networks—with strong representation encouraged from Canada and the Global South.
What is the investment?
A ticket costs $3,000 CAD which includes accommodation for two nights, full access to all Summit programming, all meals, drinks, and social activities throughout.
We are pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships to support attendance. In allocating these, we will prioritize applicants from Indigenous communities and from Global South regions.
We also have a number of discounted tickets available, which will be prioritized for applicants from non-profit organizations and academic institutions with limited means.
What will I get out of it?
Actionable practices, new and deeper relationships with the community of fellow practitioners.
It’ll also be fun! There will be outdoor activities (canoeing anyone?), music, dancing and fires!
What is the capacity?
Summit 2027 is capped at 300 attendees. In every previous year we have set a cap, the Summit has sold out, and we expect the same this year. This is a deliberate limit, not a target: the Summit works because the room is small enough for genuine relationship-building and focused, practical exchange, and that only holds below a certain size.
Attendance is by invitation. If you’ve been invited or nominated, please confirm your place promptly, as holds are extended for a limited period before they’re released to others on the waitlist.
To keep the room balanced across the field rather than concentrated in a few institutions, we’re limiting attendance to a maximum of two people per organisation.
I'm not a practitioner—is the 2027 Summit for me?
If you’re new to systemic investing and looking to learn the fundamentals, the Summit probably isn’t the right fit—but we’re developing other ways for you to explore the field and engage with the ideas, and we’ll share more on those soon. However, if you’re already doing this work but perhaps using different language to describe it, we’d love to hear from you.
